My name is Niamh Ordner, and I’m the science and medicine fellow at The Dallas Morning News. I report on scientific research, public health, and science and environmental policy relevant to North Texas. With every story I write, I aim to spark curiosity and help people develop a deeper appreciation for the world around us.

I was a 2025 AAAS Mass Media Science and Engineering Fellow at the Los Angeles Times, where I worked on the science, environment, and health desk. During my time there, I published 13 stories, including 4 A1s, that collectively garnered over 380,000 page views.

I graduated from Rice University in 2026 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Integrative Biology. I earned distinction in research and creative work for my contributions at the Bartel Lab at Rice University, and I also spent time as a research assistant at MD Anderson Cancer Center.

While at Rice, I wrote for the **Weiss School of Natural Sciences ****newsletter and magazine, and also helped produce short-form video content for their social media. I also served as a writer and editor for Catalyst, the undergraduate research journal, and have led educational outreach through workshops and nonprofit community health initiatives.

Beyond reporting, I enjoy painting, sculpting, museum-hopping my way through new cities, and questioning the feasibility of my favorite sci-fi novels.

I am always open to pitches, and as a voracious reader, I love being sent interesting scientific papers or novels. I can be reached at [email protected] or at @niamhordner.30 on Signal.
